Four years from now is the end of our existence. So, prepare yourselves for this big event. Is it?

2012 mark an unusual astronomical alignment, one so rare it occurs only in 30 out of every 26,000 years

People love end-time prophecy

What makes 2012 significant is that it coincides with the alignment of the center of the Milky Way galaxy, our sun, earth, and the large planets. If it was not for this fact I would say that 2012 was just another Y2K hoax. But the astronomy makes it believeable.

It looks like this gravitational cosmic tsunami could cause the sun to scorch the earth. That means that the only immediate survivors would be people in the underground cities, caves, and submarines. However, even these people may not survive too long because such an event ( gravitational surges ) might bring on earth quakes and volcanic activity, flooding, and the such. These events might collapse underground cities and caves. Huge tidal floods might flood subways on the eastern seaboard. (Excerpts from the viewzone.com)

Astronomical Alignment

The Mayas approached "prophecy" by intensely studying the periodicity of cycles, especially astronomical ones, and their synchronicity to human events. They were aware of the role that human consciousness plays in connecting to and interpreting information accurately. They knew that a proper dietary regiment would enhance their perception, allowing them to interpret realities and scientific truths. This knowledge must explain how they were able to ascertain what will happen on October 21, 2012. Incredibly, they knew, over a thousand years ago, that on this date there will be an astronomical alignment of our sun and the center of the Milky Way. This impending alignment of the sun at that very point, according to Mayan calculations, culminates at the Winter Solstice of December 21, 2012. Also, on this date, the tail of the "shadow" serpent descending the northern steps of the pyramid at Chichén-Itzá will be pointing exactly towards the Pleiades star cluster which will be located straight up and over the structure. Life-ending cataclysm?

To add to the frenzy, it just so happens that the years building up to 2012 mark an unusual astronomical alignment, one so rare it occurs only in 30 out of every 26,000 years. During this period, the Sun will make its annual crossing of the galactic equator—the plane that bisects the Milky Way as it appears in the sky—on the same day as the winter solstice. So what does all this mean? A small group of doomsayers believe a life-ending cataclysm is on the horizon. Patrick Geryl, a Belgian researcher, says he believes the alignment will trigger a reversal in the magnetic fields of the Sun, causing it to get 10 or 20 times hotter, which will reverse the Earth's rotation on its axis and flood its inhabitants (mainstream astronomers don't agree). Earth-Shaking Date?

The most popular doomsday date approaching is 2012. Countless sites offer evidences from various sources including Bible Code, Peak Oil, Numerology, Remote Viewing, Elliot Wave, etc. as evidence of something earth-shaking due that year. Most famously 2012 is the year when the so-called Long Count b'ak'tun cycle of the Mayan Calendar ends (on December 21 or possibly December 23). While it's unclear what the end of that period meant to the Mayas, many interpret the period end as The End, perhaps of civilization as we know it due to a major catastrophe, such as the passage of Planet X.

My default assumption about 2012 has been that it would probably be no different than the previous speculated dates. That assumption came from a time-proven maxim I had coined based on the saying that a "watched pot never boils": If anyone "sets a doomsday date", that's the one date that you can count on nothing happening. In other words, if everyone is distracted by watching one time period, it seems to virtually guarantee that nothing will happen during it. Or if something does happen, it will come at some other unwatched time. (Excerpts from escapeallthesethings.com)
